Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme — North West Businesses 2026

Is Your North West Business Eligible for a Broadband Upgrade Grant?

Slow broadband costs businesses time and money. The good news is that eligible businesses across the North West may be able to get a grant contribution of up to £3,500 towards upgrading to a gigabit-capable broadband connection — fast, reliable connectivity that can transform how you work.

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS) is a government-backed grant designed to help small and medium-sized businesses in rural and semi-rural areas access high-speed broadband where commercial rollout has been slow.

Who is it for?

The scheme is available to SMEs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, including businesses in the North West. It covers businesses with between 0 and 249 employees across a wide range of sectors including retail, hospitality, agriculture, construction, professional services and more.

To be eligible your business typically needs to be in an area not yet served by gigabit-capable broadband through commercial means. Many businesses in rural Cheshire, Lancashire, and Cumbria fall into this category.

How much can you get?

Up to £3,500 as part of a group application. The voucher contributes towards the cost of installation — you work with an approved supplier who handles the application process on your behalf.

How to apply

Applications are made through approved broadband suppliers rather than directly to the government. Visit the official scheme website to check current availability in your postcode and find an approved supplier near you.
